WHAT DO ALL SKIN COLORS HAVE IN COMMON?
The palms of the hands and soles of the feet are paler than the rest of the body! A mystery that was clarified in 2004 by Yuji Yamaguchi, of the National Institute of Health, in Bethesta (Maryland, USA): in the dermis of the soles of the feet and palms of the hands, fibroblasts abundantly synthesize DKK-1, a protein and intracellular messenger which modulates melanogenesis.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF VASCULARization IN DARK SPOTS ON THE SKIN?
Some studies have found that melasma-prone areas are much more vascularized, demonstrating a connection between vascularity and pigmentation. Endothelin 1 insinuates itself into the epidermis and stimulates melanocytes, via a specific receptor attached to their surface: the endothelin B receptor, which stimulates melanogenesis (i.e. the production of melanin).
