Beauty blender: What it is and what it is used for
The original Beautyblender, literally "shade of beauty", was born in 1993 from an idea of the famous American make up artist Rea Ann Silva, who, accustomed to working backstage at the most famous catwalks in the world, wanted a useful tool to easily apply the base face, quickly, evenly and very naturally.
He therefore studied the ideal egg shape, which would adapt perfectly to the natural shapes of the face, easily reaching even corners and crevices that are difficult to treat with a common make-up sponge and thus optimizing the application of every type of fluid product, resulting in an airbrushed effect. pleasant and light.
It is made of suede, latex-free, odorless, hypoallergenic and has a velvety effect. But why is it considered revolutionary? Because it allows you to apply the product evenly foundation without streaks, reaching even the places that are difficult to reach with the brush such as the area under the eyes, the corners of the nose and the area around the lips. Certainly the most used cosmetic with the beauty blender is foundation, but it can also be used to apply other products such as: colored concealers, face primer, BB cream, face powder and highlighter.
Furthermore, it can also be used to create plays of light and shadow to sculpt certain facial features and perform the contouring technique. They are latex free, i.e. without latex. This aspect especially helps people who are particularly allergic to this material, but the absence of latex makes beauty blenders softer and easier to use.
What are beauty blenders made of? In reality, its exact composition is not known because the company that created them only says that it is made up of a material called aqua-activated. However, the main ingredient appears to be polyurethane foam.
Some variants, however, are made of silicone and covered with polyurethane. However, they all have in common the absence of latex.
How is it used?
The best way to use it is to immerse it in water, wait for it to double its size and finally squeeze it gently, eliminating excess water and leaving it moist. After wetting and wringing it, you can already start using it: put a little product on the back of your hand (in the case of fluid or cream products) or directly on the sponge, and tap quickly on the face with a light rotating movement, in this way the product will penetrate the skin well and you will have a homogeneous result across the entire face.
Naturally, after using it, it must always be cleaned and this can be done using specific detergents that the beauty blender company itself sells, but any delicate product is fine, even those we use for the face. The important thing is that the product does not contain glycolic acid or salicyclic acid because they have an exfoliating action which would ruin the material it is made of.
- To clean it, just wet the Beauty Blender under running water, apply a little facial cleanser or even mild neutral soap, rub gently between your fingers to dissolve makeup and rinse well.
- Finally, wring out the water and leave to air dry, without putting it back in the package or in a closed bag when it is wet because otherwise germs and bacteria can proliferate.
What do you think? It is certainly a valid alternative to the now outdated brush!
